Schwartzie's New Years Eve 2005 Article

"The Miracle of Xmas Past"(& Present)

As most know, we like 2 B creative (read ---outrageous), & since we R INDEPENDENT we do have the luxury of being as creative as we want.

We figured out 2 things a long time ago.

bullet1. Every Jewish org has a Chanuka Party.
bullet2. But there's nothing 4 Jews 2 do on Xmas.

On the 1st point, we like 2 B dfrnt, & dont like competition. More than tht, we (like others), dont like $ being spent on duplicity. So we do Not compete 2 make yet ANOTHER Chanuka Party. Instead, we have always had a "NOT a Christmas Party" on Dec. 25th. This was always one of the biggest parties of the year.

It was always one of the few times tht the singles would come up 2 me & wax profusely , W/ appreciation & grattitude , saying things like ," Thnx so much 4 doing this 2day ! " . This idea has been a consistent hit for many yrs now.

Most of our parties take place in large backyards. Last year on Dec. 25th the nay sayers (weather reporters) were unanimous abt rain tht day. The miracle took place as we were getting flooded W/ calls & emails -" R U still gonna have the party? " .

I started calling 4 a dfrnt venue a few hours B4 starting time. Miraculously, in the 11th hour, I found an old frnd who is a successful attorney, who lived in a large home in Hancock Park --- 1/2 blk from our original outdoor location. (There is a G-d!)

I stationed Jesus (dont pronounce it tht way ; he was one of the South of the border itinerant laborers I picked up 2 help shlep tables etc.) @ the old location W/ flyers , 2 give ppl , 2 redirect them 2 the half blk away , 2 the new location .

We had a huge crowd in this LOVELY home & a good time was had by all.

This yr we scheduled our "Post Hanuka Party" (AKA "NOT a Christmas Party") @ the same backyard as last yr. (I figured, I have a credit & they owed me one).

Then the same scenario began again W/ the Rain Panick.

Weather reports --- Phone calls --- panicky emails etc. But I felt tht "Bashert" will not do this again, so we went 4wrd .The party was from 2 to 5 PM.It looked foreboding the whole day but ---------------til 5 NOTHING happened --- & we got almost 400 ppl.

At 5 PM it started 2 drizzle.

Yes my dear frnds ; There is a G-d .

Not a Christmas Party -  Sunday, December 26, 2004   2 - 5 P.M.

You R NOT working on Dec. 26th of this year. So instead of doing what Jews usually do in America in the Christmas season, do something dfrnt--thts enjoyable!

Come 2 the annual Chai center's "NOT a Christmas Party" for singles 25-49. Don’’t B "the Jew that came 2 the office Christmas Party"; or...the Jew that  didn't go 2 the office Christmas Party". B among almost 400 MOTs (Members Of the Tribe), its the biggest party of the entire yr bcz ---What else is there 2 do?. And w/ numbers like tht, I always wind up officiating abt 9 months later @ a few good ones. (Volume rocks!) Perfect venue 2 meet the one tht U'd like 2 make some serious eye contact w/. Bring every Jew U know.

Ten bucks ($10 minimum tax deductible contribution) gets U thru the door, w/ unlimited assorted whites & reds, sweet & dry, & 100% instant-weight-loss-munchies etc.

Its Sun. the 26th. from 2 to 5 PM, in a large private backyard outside (wear a fur-lined Talis, or "gatkahs" (long Johns) if U're female). The adrs is (no longer applicable). Thts East of La Brea & one blk No.of Beverly Blvd. in Hancock Park (rite smack dab in the middle of the "HOOD"). If U bring a frnd who is Not on our list, make sure they sign up 2 get our grt junk mail (I write the copy myself ), AND dont 4get 2 write their email adrs ! Have an enLIGHTening  Chanukah!!! Schwartzie
